Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya: Taking flight with the country’s bright and young
Our 7th workshop – the community gets stronger and louder.
In our latest effort to interact with the bright minds of the future, we travelled to one of the oldest villages of South Delhi, Tughlakabad. Sitting right in the shadows of the historic Tughlaqabad Fort, SKV Tughlakabad and its girls surely have a strong say in the future. Entering the beautiful school grounds on a hot Saturday morning, with the school day nearing its end, we were greeted not by weary faces but by a sea of energy. The girls bustled around the school, matching our own passion and energy, infusing the air with a palpable sense of anticipation and excitement as the workshop started.
With the workshop progressing, we discovered the girls to be leaning towards a variety of careers from lawyers and doctors to teachers and artists. It was surprising to know that although the girls had an up-to-date touch on tech and were Instagram influencers in their own right, none of them were yet aspired to work in the tech industry. This not only made the workshop more rewarding, but also introduced an entirely new world to these young minds. As the workshop became a stage for open communication, the girls opened up about their thoughts on the industry and were so eager to interact with us. They truly showed us their intelligence, smartness, humbleness and mature attitude.
Amongst all this, one thing that prevailed the most was their unwavering want to provide for their families and themselves. The flexibility and adaptability that the tech industry provides in this scenario is pretty much unbeaten in today’s world. We can safely say that by simply gaining this knowledge about the tech industry, many girls got inspired to work in it as it aligns with and accommodates their future goals. The QnA session marked the end of the workshop and at the same time also peaked the enthusiasm shown by the girls as they answered various tech-related questions! We were all pretty marveled by the amount of knowledge that these 9th- graders showcased. As we built a bond with the girls, we were extremely happy to see how many of them had signed up for our mentorship programme along with many coming up to us even after the workshop to get in touch and ask even more questions!
With amazing feedback from the kids, we were also delighted by the positive feedback received by the teachers and the principal. Further, we have been invited to run more workshops at SKV, Tughlakabad in the near future.
With this and many more workshops in the works, we at GirlsGrow aim to rapidly build bridges for girls who want to get into the tech industry. We can’t wait to enable promising and happy futures for all the smiling faces out there!
Amazing!
